After working independently in bands ranging from indie rock to blues, Americana and jazz,
Tom Walters and Nicole Cassingham formed The Taproots with a focus on original material.
Songwriting and vocal harmonies took center stage as they found themselves
becoming regular performers at concerts, wineries and other venues.
With a growing library of well-received songs, the duo headed off to
the recording studios, cutting their first four tracks at Jay Ferguson's The Green Orb
in Santa Barbara. Joining drummer and co-producer Michael C. Mason for these
sessions were some exceptional studio artists, including bassist Steve Nelson
(Michael McDonald, Jim Messina) and Grammy Award winning guitarist Clif Magness.
Mason and The Taproots then expanded the project, cutting 11 additional tracks at
Momboe Productions in Woodland Hills, all engineered and mixed by recording veteran
Ross Pallone of Rossaround Studios. More musicians got in on the act, including
guitar wizard Jon Woodhead (Leon Russel, Maria Muldaur), keyboardist David Adelstein
(Bob Welch, Rick Springfield) and Pat Benatar’s fine bassist Mick Mahan.
